TSL Day Coverage

Producing an event for the first time always has its risks and hurdles. Typically, you don’t know how your target market and community will react to it, and ensuring that you have support from the very beginning can be extremely difficult.

We faced these very challenges when we produced our first car show back in 2010, but over five years of experience since then has taught us many things and lit a clear path to success.

We knew that the Toyota community had been missing a large event for a few years now, but we also knew that the community deserved the best possible event we could offer. Thus, we spent a large amount of time working with Toyota USA and their representatives to help us produce an event that would have lasting power and cater to the Toyota community as a whole. The end result was TSL Day, Presented by Toyota USA at Pacific Raceways.

Following our tried and true formula of success, TSL Day was three events in one: a Toyota-only car show, lead-follow around the track, and drag racing in the afternoon. Being our first event, we weren’t expecting huge numbers, but all of the nearly 100 Toyotas that participated in the car show were very high quality and from all sorts of different modification philosophies. We saw many slammed and stanced FRSs, but at the same time had lifted Land Cruisers and powerful Tundra pickups. Toyota USA brought out several of their latest models, with the Quicksand-colored TRD Pro edition trucks and SUVs drawing the attention of all Toyota enthusiasts alike. The diversity of styles was something not often seen at most car shows around the Pacific Northwest, and the fact that everyone enjoyed each others’ styles and modifications was a very welcome sight.

Lead-follow was quite popular, with older Toyota Cressidas ripping around the track in front of and behind Lexus IS-Fs and Scion FRSs. While not a competition, lead-follow is a great way to drive fast around Pacific Raceways without the high cost and licensing requirements of a formal lapping day. The drag racing also saw some surprises as well, with turbo’d Cressidas running the low 13s and an FRS consistently beating a Mustang GT to the finish line. We’d hoped to see more Supras come out for the drag racing, but hopefully in the years to come we’ll be able to draw more out of hiding.

We almost couldn’t ask for a better first try at TSL Day, but in true NWMotiv fashion, mother nature decided to put her stamp on our event at the very end. With dry and partly sunny weather throughout most of the day, right as the awards ceremony started, the skies opened up and we flashed back to the Forum Fest tsunami of a few years back. This led to a very fast awards ceremony and as luck would have it, as soon as everyone packed up and rolled out, the sunny skies had returned. We suppose it wouldn’t be a NWMotiv event if this sort of thing didn’t happen at some point.

Many thanks to our title sponsor, Toyota USA, for all of their help and support for our inaugural Toyota/Scion/Lexus event. We couldn’t have done it without you, and we look forward to working with you again in the future. We’d also like to thank all of our car show competitors and attendees for helping make our first event with you a huge success. We can’t wait to see what next year brings and we hope to see you again very soon!
