The sport of Drifting has taken control on the import tuner scene and doesn’t look to be stopping anytime soon. Across the country you will find various drifting organizations and tracks opening their venues to these types of events. Portland is no different this year with Portland International Raceway welcoming back drifting back after about a 4 year break. Super Drift Crown will hold 6 two day events in 2012 with access to all skill levels of drivers all at Portland International Raceway. Featuring Autocross style drifting in the paddock area and drifting sessions on the track for the more advanced drivers, with free spectating for the fans!

The skies opened up for Event #2 of the Super Drift Crown series which brought out drivers and fans in the masses. Amongst the mix of drivers Northwest Formula Drift drive Andrew Coomes was out doing some testing prior to his next event for Formula Drift. The morning session was a bit slick from a little rain storm that moved in overnight, but as the day moved on the ground dried up making for some high speed drifting! The paddock course offered a great practice area for drivers to learn the control of their car in various clipping points and entry speed turns. Once drivers mastered the paddock area and showed they had control they were then allowed to hit the track for an hour session.

On top of the drifting competition happening on the track, the pits featured a car show highlighting some the rides the Portland area has to offer. Featuring a mix of track cars, show cars, and muscle cars the car show gave a great mix for drift fans to enjoy and look at. Overall the event was a huge success and we are looking forward to covering the remaining 4 events for the season!
