It’s inevitable this time of the year that the traveling race, Import Face Off, would be making its visit at the Woodburn Drag Strip in Oregon. Just like last year, Mother Nature held her sloppy self together long enough for the racers and car show participants to have their event.

The day started off dreary, with storm clouds and strong winds which made it look like it was going to be rained out, but if the year prior was any indication, then we would be racing in no time. The gates opened early and by the time we had entered the lines, a good portion of the race grounds had been covered by drag racers, including local all stars SpeedFactory Racing and KaizenSpeed.  After a short delay to get the track dry, qualifying began and the racers were off.

The car show topped out at around 90-100 cars, which is expected of IFO, but we had honestly expected more with IFO Kent being cancelled this coming weekend. Team Innovations and Team Menace were to two notable crews on hand, with several other high-end builds in attendance. One of the show’s controversies were the judges allowing Jamari Whiteside’s Best of Show winning Subaru WRX to compete for an award, sans motor.  We understand the need to have expedient judging, but between allowing a non-completed car to compete and the lightning fast judging, it begs the question if the car show is really just the side event that no one really cares about. Let me make my point clear, I’m not saying he can’t show, I’m not saying all of the awards weren’t deserved to the winners, I’m asking the question, should a car be allowed to compete in a show if it can’t run? Either way, at the end of the day, the winners were well-deserved and several NWMotiv featured and/or sponsored cars took home awards!

It was a tough day for several of the drag crews, but some personal bests and records were set across the board. James Kempf of SpeedFactory Racing had a blazing fast run of 8.653 @ 182mph, while Kaizen edged them out with an 8.603 @ 175mph run.  See the video below! .0017 difference!

While SpeedFactory might have lost out in that class, they sure did bring their game in the FWD and All Motor Pro classes. Cole Marmon and his bright blue and orange Honda Civic took his class with a run of 9.433 @ 159mph and Joel Sipes with a 10.564 @ 127mph run. Congrats to our boys in Tacoma for some very impressive wins!

With the next week’s Import Face off in Kent cancelled, we might see Cliff and his crew out here again later in the year. If you remember, they were here this past September, so another IFO race this season isn’t out of the question.
