Forum Fest 2015 Coverage

by on August 4, 2015

It’s been said that just about everything is cyclical. There are ups and downs, ebbs and flows, hills and valleys, and make no mistake: the weather at Forum Fest. Last year, we thought it would be wise to push the date back one week in hopes that we’d avoid rain, but nature decided to mess with us for daring to oppose it, and dumped yet another tsunami upon us. This year however, our event date at the end of June proved to be what we had hoped for, but perhaps a bit to an extreme that we did not anticipate.

The entire West Coast has been under drought conditions for the vast majority of 2015, and finally these crazy high temperatures decided to grace the Pacific Northwest on the very day of Forum Fest. While we ended up having hotter days later on, Forum Fest 2015 represented the hottest day of the year up until that point, which was a very sharp and poignant contrast to the sweeping rain of the year prior. With more than 20 vendors on hand, a precedent for huge attendance numbers thanks to HondaFestNW back in April, a change in format to be a 100% judged car show, and the dry weather promising no cancellations of lead-follow or drag racing, the stars looked to be aligning for the best Forum Fest we’ve ever had.

From the car show and vendor roll-in, to the early morning sounds of lead-follow on the track, to the roaring crowds for SpeedFactory’s drag cars putting on a spectacle, everything looked to be running as smooth as they possibly could be. However, the X factor that no one could escape was the sheer and utter blistering heat, which definitely appeared to have an effect on the number of attendees. That isn’t to say that Forum Fest 2015 wasn’t a success; in fact, overall there were very little hiccups during the event and the quality of the car show participants reached a level not seen since the glory days of the mid-2000s. Rob Kothenbeutel successfully defended his Best of Show trophy from last year with his 2006 Mitsubishi Evolution, while Kendrick Gray took home NWMotiv Choice with his track-prepped 2006 Subaru WRX STI. Team Innovations took home Best Forum/Group Participation, while Team Menace won Best Team Overall. The full list of winners can be found below.

We can only hope that next year, we’re able to break the “Forum Fest Weather Cycle” and it’ll stay sunny, but maybe not quite as hot as it was this year. Perhaps we should start doing our anti-rain dance now, and pray that the weather gods shine down upon us next June. Nevertheless, we are Made in the Rain after all, and will make every effort to make Forum Fest even better than it was this year. Thank you once again to all of our vendors and we hope to see you all again in 2016!
