How do you take a Mitsubishi Evolution, a model inspired by rally with its clean, subtle, functional lines, and out of the box performance, and make it even better? You give it to Mario Chan of Team Menace to add just enough power and just enough flare to put it over the top.

How many show-car Evos have you seen in the Northwest that really take it to the next level without “overdoing” it? The fact is you can’t really take an Evo to THAT level without sacrificing its perfect out of the box look. Maybe that’s why it took Mario Chan nearly 3 years to complete his work of art. Take a good look, because it doesn’t exist anymore.

“What do you mean it doesn’t exist?” is what you’re probably asking. We’ll get to that in a minute; let’s get back to the good stuff. Mario isn’t new to the scene: he’s a seasoned veteran but that doesn’t mean building this car was easy for him. Mario came from the Toyota scene — Celica (you can laugh at his expense) to be exact — where he built an award winning, magazine worthy, Lambo-door Celica. It had plenty of show and plenty of go, but that go, only goes so far when it comes to speed and performance. Mario knew that if he was going to build something that he had to make people take notice, it would have to be big, so when he told me he was going Evo, I knew good things were planned.

If you have been to any car shows in the past year, then there is no doubt that you have seen this Evo X along with its Team Menace counterparts. Mario’s Evo is Graphite Gray Metallic with enough carbon from Do-Luck, Seibon and Varis to fill a bank, or in Mario’s case, empty his. His custom black with matte-faced iForged Neo 3 piece wheels with near perfect fitment on Nitto NT555R tires really define the attitude of his car. His painted stock Brembo calipers are filled with performance oriented Girodisc rotors and pads to really bring the entire suspension together.
JDM-inspired with a hint of Chan-ness (that’s flare to anyone paying attention), he well exceeds the 13-piece minimum. Take a look at his engine bay: his body can’t produce enough saliva to keep all that bling polished. From AEM to AMS and ARC, there are enough ”go fast” products in there to push the motor to 420HP @ 3800 RPM with 400TQ, boosting at 27psi.

His mod list reads from a catalog of what could have been one of the cleanest Mitsubishi Evolution Xs ever built, but these pictures are all that you will see of it from now on. Shortly after these pictures were done, Mario’s three year build was disassembled in a matter of three days, parted out and returned to stock. What does Mario have in store next? Only time will tell, he’ll probably relax relishing in the thought of not having to worry about the next car show or the next mod he has planned. But just like any other car builder, it’s only a matter of time until the itch comes back.
Until then, check out the mod list. We’ll see you on the streets Mr. Chan.
