Can a car be flashy and understated at the same time? Can certain elements of a car make you turn to look at it, but when you do it doesn’t look as flashy as you originally thought? That’s Brendan Hughes’ Mazda 3: with a very mild exterior and very wild green accents, it’s hard not to at least admit that you looked.

We’re not saying his car is forgetful by any means, but let’s face it: with the growing epidemic of ADHD kids in this country, if there aren’t a million things going on, today’s youth will more than likely not pay attention. That, in a reason of itself, is why we like it. It’s understated and clean, but with enough flash to make it stand out in a crowd, even if it’s for an initial look.

Brendan is a diehard from Portland, often traveling north for most the car events. however, you can find him running circles around most the Auto-X competition in his class in his area, currently in the running for first place. His signature “shrek jizz” style is getting noticed across more show events too, recently placing 2nd in his class at Forum Fest and 1st at the most recent Garage Plus Import Show this past weekend.

Brendan has a passion for the fitment scene, but can’t follow the lifestyle until his auto cross season is finished. His fitment provides him with adequate grip and clearance on the course and his brand new audio system is easy to remove for competition days. Brendan is just getting his feet wet in the scene and has made good progress so far, but we still want to see the next moves he makes.

Ive watched this car come from just another black mz3 to the flashy stylish piece of art you see in front of you. The amount of time and thought brendan has put into his car is unbelievable specially when you think that this all has happened in only a year. Cant wait to see his next moves and enjoy all the people who take double takes on a car that you cant help but look at.

  2. CJ says:

Nice to see Brendan get recognition for his sick ride and all his hard work put into it.

  3. VALERIE says:

Way Cool! Now I wish it was still mine. Should have never given him my old car! Love ya Brendan. Mom

  4. BRENDAN says:

you know a feature is legit when your mom comments on it! ROFL

Sean: thanks, you’ve kept the ideas flowing for this build and always keep me grounded when it comes to spending all my monies

Congrats Brendan!!! About time those Shrek wheels get in the spotlight ;) You and CJ have been my inspiration! The car is great the way it is and also a functional AutoX car. Where’s the pics of you dodging cones??

  7. AZNTAIJI says:

I’ve seen this car since Brendan first got it and joined up on the local Mazda forum a year or so ago. I must say, it’s come an extremely long way from the beginning; keep up the great work bro, I know what you’ve got planned for the future is going to make it even better.

  8. BELLATRIXX says:

Brendan, your car is pure awesome. I love how it’s so different from so many others’ I’ve seen, and it’s definitely part of the inspiration for my build. As for the “mazdaspeed” guys’ comment, I think it’s great that you have taken what you had and improved it so much in so little time. It’s not always about who has the fastest car or the nicest car, but what is memorable. The dedication I’ve heard and seen that you’ve put into this car is unbelievable, and it’s truly inspiring. If you’ve got haters, it only means you’re doing something right.

  9. BRENDAN says:

thanks for all the support i truly wouldn’t continue to push the car without you guys. got some big plans in the works for next years show season

  10. EPIC3 says:
